We care passionately about the environment and having a positive impact on our planet. Here’s some information about our connection to the River Wye:
- Nando’s accounts for less than 3% of the chicken bought in the UK
- We don’t own any farms, but work very closely with our suppliers across the UK to make sure all our products are responsibly sourced
- We have one supplier in the Wye catchment area, Avara. They’ve assured us that manure at their facilities is removed and responsibly disposed of. As an additional assurance, we commissioned an independent third-party audit of the waste disposal practices on the Wye valley farms Avara uses to supply us. The audit has backed up Avara’s assurances.
- We have policies in place that our suppliers are required to follow that cover various aspects of chicken farming, including contractual water and food policies, as well as waste management plans.
- If we identify any issues that don’t meet with our policies, we immediately address them with our suppliers
- We’ve met with an NGO campaigning about pollution in the River Wye to understand their concerns and have shared our water policy with them
- This is a complex topic with many contributing factors, as outlined by recent academic studies by the Universities of Cardiff and Lancaster, as well as the Wye & Usk Foundation
- We’ll continue to work with our suppliers and experts to understand the issues
